The BALLS TENNIS CLUB provides the means by which English-speaking men and women, of any nationality from Luxembourg or thereabouts, can share their interest in tennis. During the year, we also try to coordinate some social events such as a golf tournament, a ten-pin bowling evening and an annual dinner.

Every year, between October and May, gentlemen and ladies of all ages, diverse backgrounds and from many nationalities share a thirst for:

social (but competitive) tennis for intermediate and advanced players; regular weekly tennis on Thursday evenings between 9.00pm and 11.00pm at Kockelscheuer, Luxembourg; an optional glass of beer and a relaxing post-match chat (which usually extends the evening through until about midnight) English as a common language.

Membership Types and Annual Costs

Invitations come out at the end of the summer to apply for annual:
"full membership" which is currently €160 per season.

All members benefit from invitations to participate at annual social events organized by the Balls Tennis Club, including a Pizza evening and an end-of-year tournament.

Unfortunately, we are presently unable to accommodate novice players or total beginners. As a guide only, you'll need to be able to return the ball and get involved in rallies.

Commitment

The club is set up to ensure that regular commitment, while preferred, is not essential. We generally play doubles tennis. Each week the pairings will be mixed up to promote balanced and fun matches. Depending on interest, limited coaching by a Professional (on a rotated membership basis) may be provided on one of our five reserved courts.

With the 4 courts presently available, we can cater for about 20-25 players who share the cost of these. This means that Full Members should get to play, on average, about two weeks out of every three and generally whenever they want to. Once or twice a year (generally on national holidays), our reserved courts are opened up for ad hoc match arrangement.

With people going away on holidays, business trips, etc., it generally turns out that everyone gets an opportunity to play on a fairly regular basis. Court reservation and match arrangements are scheduled in advance through the use of an interactive web-site (see next slide).

If you know that your plans have changed and you cannot play, please remember to update the site and permit your vacated slot to be made available to others.

Interactive login & Operation of the Website

STEP 1: Enter your personal details on the membership page, select a password and pay your membership fee. Once complete, this permits password protected access to the website and booking of the courts.

STEP 2: Book a Commitment to Play: IT'S SIMPLE, either once or twice per week, check the rota on the website or check your email. DONE in 60 seconds! After 5.00pm on Wednesday before you're due to play, if you're name is in a playing slot, we expect to see you the following evening; this is the fairest way. In case you are a Substitute or on the reserve list for that week's play, it is recommended that you undertake a final check some time after 6.00pm on the preceding Wednesday.

You can book court playing "slots" for yourself for entire season . You'll even receive an email notification about the date, court number and whether you'll need to provide balls and tokens for the lights!

Warning - if a player doesn't turn up on the night they will be liable to a fine of €10 in fairness to the other 3 players who have been let down and any other player who could have played but was denied the opportunity!

STEP 3: Turn up and play!

Coaching

All members (both full and substitute) should have an opportunity to receive coaching from an Estess Coach on at least one occasion up until Christmas. Balls Tennis Club will ensure that everyone is treated as fairly and as equally as possible. Either prior to or after coaching (depending upon scheduled time).

Because coaching has an associated cost, this is factored in at the beginning of the season. Coaching after Christmas may continue provided that enough interest is shown and provided that sufficient funds remain within the club account.

Bringing Guests

One guest per member can be added to a playing slot from the Thursday morning of the session, if slots are available. The Guest fee will be €10. Contact Joe or Gorazd to add a Guest to the Rota.
